Finding your FEET

Stepping

Forward in to Education Employment or Training

With this initiative, our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With access to the right resources and asset thinking people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfil their potential.

Our mission at MAST Outreach Services is to empower and enable young people to rebuild and take control of their lives.

MAST’s outreach programme “Finding your FEET” is delivered where the young people are most comfortable accessing the programme, this could be for example their supported accommodation, local community centre, village hall, residential home.

Finding your FEET is a catalogue of formal 1:1, formal group work and informal workshops that can be combined to provide a personalised programme of any length from 6 weeks to 6 months according to need and are delivered by an engagement coach, tutor, or leaders for more complex needs.

Finding your FEET includes modules to address

  • Practical life Skills

  • Health and Wellbeing

  • Healthy Cooking on a Budget

  • Positive Parenting

  • Functional Skills

  • Work and learning

As with many front line and grass root  services the COVID-19 pandemic considerably restricted our practice.  Striving to continue to engage with our young people and we had to diversify with live-online sessions, in which engagement wasn't always successful and not everyone had the resources to participate.

Ever developing engagement opportunities , workbooks were created, thus enabling engagement. The feedback from the cohort for moving away from digital and reverting to work book style engagement was refreshing and positive. The young people said working with a work book meant they could look back on information, record their ideas, share notes and had something tangible to take away and use for reference. When everything around them was turning digital, and often resources were not available for them to engage, leaving them disconnected a workbook  posted to them helped them to feel less isolated.  Where possible each workbook was followed up with a brief video call.

This experience has meant we are now focusing on creating workbooks that are informative, interactive and inclusive.
